IT STORAGE

OVERVIEW

Storage is the foundation of IT in any organisation. ATN's range of solutions cover Storage Area Networks (SANs) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) providing effective results for all IT network requirements. SANs provide block level access to centralised data using either dedicated Fibre Channel Networks from leading vendors such as HP, Netapp, or the newer iSCSI protocol over traditional Local Area Networks (LANs). NAS solutions, on the other hand, offer large volume file-system level access to data and are for generally less complex storage requirements for smaller groups within the network.

ATN can also introduce additional DR capabilities in the shape of storage replication. A storage replication service provides an extra measure of redundancy that can be invaluable if the main storage backup system fails. This provides immediate access to the replicated data minimises downtime and its associated costs. The service can streamline disaster recovery processes by generating duplicate copies of all production data files on a continuous basis, this can be either on or off site. It can also speed up and simplify recovery from a disaster such as a fire, flood, hurricane, virus, or worm.

Data storage has become one of the fastest growing elements of an IT infrastructure thanks to increasing demands for data retention and data sprawl, massive data warehouses, and explosive growth in e-mail traffic. Businesses lose billions of pounds each year due to data loss from hardware or system failure, human error and software corruption. Natural disasters, although only accounting for 1% of all data loss can have a huge effect on any business and as criticality of data increases so does the risk associated with losing it. Studies have shown that in the event of a disaster companies that aren’t able to resume operations within ten days are not likely to survive.

Deduplication is another efficient use of Storage. A good storage network will automatically delete duplicates; even if data appears in a few places, there will only be one physical copy. Despite this, data is replicated across multiple sites so if a business experiences a disaster, the data is completely protected. This efficient process maximizes any investment made in Storage.
